The Whitmire Fire Department is located in northern Newberry County adjacent to Union County and Laurens County. We provide mutual aid with Union and Laurens Counties. Whitmire Fire withholds a ISO Class 6.  The Fire Department has received FEMA's Assistance to Firefighters Grant for 2003, 2004 & 2005.  With the 2003 Assistance for Firefighters Grant, we purchased training software and a Mobile Training Center from Firefacilites. The 2004 grant that we was awarded is to purchase Scott 2.2 SCBA's with integrated PASS device, Large Diameter Hose, adapters, VHF Repeater, Mobile Radio's, Portable Radio's and pagers. Finally, the 2005 Assistance to Firefighters Grant was used to purchase full turn out gear for all the members.  The Whitmire Fire Department would not be able to have the equipment with out the help of the FEMA Grants.
